CLOW

Welcome to Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)!

CLOW is an adapted worship experience developed to help children understand the Gospel message and participate at their level. The Catechist leading CLOW will help facilitate this experience. CLOW is for all children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade and takes place during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass (October – May, see calendar for specific dates).

During CLOW, children hear Scripture in words they understand and share their own understanding of God’s word. Each session includes the readings of the Mass from the Children’s Lectionary and a reflection by the catechist.

When and how do children participate?

Children attend Mass with their parents and join the assembly for the introductory rites. The children are called forth, given a blessing and dismissed, by the presider, after the opening prayer. They are led by a team of trained adult catechists. Children will hear the Word of God proclaimed and reflect upon its meaning in their lives. At the conclusion of the liturgy of the word, the children will rejoin their parents to continue the celebration of the liturgy of the Eucharist.

Who are the leaders of CLOW?

CLOW leaders are members of the parish. These adult leaders receive training on requirements and on different ways to present CLOW safely following all appropriate guidelines and protocols. Also, all adults working with children in the parish are required to be fingerprinted and complete safe environment training.
