Anointing of the Sick

“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church #1499

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is available to those who “have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by the sacrament” and is not limited to those who are at the point of death or even terminal illness. The sacrament may be requested when you or a loved one is preparing to undergo surgery, is elderly and may be struggling each day, is suffering from chronic illness, or in other similar circumstances.

Upon request, a priest will administer the sacrament at a home, a hospital, a care facility, or at our church.

To arrange for reception of this sacrament, please call the Parish Office at (714) 962-3333 or email ssj@ssj.org.
