Pastoral Message:

June 15, 2025

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

With school graduation in the past, and the end of the school year also behind us, it’s safe to say that summer is now in full swing.  Our Summer Kick Off BBQ here at Saints Simon and Jude is another sign of the change in seasons.

Even our worship reflects a change in seasons.  Last Sunday, Pentecost, marked the end of the Easter Season; now we are back in Ordinary Time.  However, the Church lets us down softly as we transition from one season to another.  This weekend we have the special Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, and next weekend we’ll have the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

Our celebration of the Holy Trinity this weekend reminds us that the mystery of the Trinity is at the heart of our Christian Faith.  God the Father sends his Son to redeem us; and the Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit to sanctify us.  Every time we make the Sign of the Cross, we honor the Holy Trinity.  And since the Scriptures tell us we are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26), it’s really important that we be aware that God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—is a community of life and love.  By living lives characterized by love, we express the image in which we are created.

In the United States we also celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday.  This is a good day to recognize our fathers and grandfathers, and anyone else who has a fatherly role in our lives.  We offer them our thanks for all that they do, and we pray that God may bless them in every way.

As you know, there are all kinds of fun things going on here during the summer months.  I hope you’ll check out all the information in our bulletin and take part in as many of our activities as possible.  If you have any special travel plans during the summer season, I hope you have a fun vacation.  There’s an appropriate time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8); let’s use this summer time as a season for rest, for recreation, and for enjoying all of God’s abundant blessings!

Blessings,

Fr. Philip
