Adult Faith Formation

Become Catholic

All Catholics young and seasoned need Faith Formation.  It is essential for adults at every stage of your spiritual journey because it provides continuous growth and deepening of your relationship with Father God. For those new to the faith, it offers foundational knowledge of Catholic teachings and traditions as well as understanding and preparation for the sacramental life. For those who have been practicing for years, continuous Faith Formation serves to refresh and expand your spiritual insights. Additionally, Faith Formation fosters a sense of Catholic community and belonging, encouraging adults to engage with others who share our Catholic beliefs and values. Ongoing formation is crucial to maintaining the vibrant parish life at Saints Simon and Jude, enabling us to live out our faith more fully together.

Catholic Book Studies

The parish wide Catholic Book Study has become a valued tradition at Saints Simon and Jude.  Participating in the Catholic Book Study is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your faith and engage with your community. Readers get to choose from a selection of thought-provoking books selected by our Clergy.

Books are distributed after Christmas. Participants read their book independently. Then, we engage in meaningful discussions during the season of Lent.  There is a suggested donation of $20. Once registered, we’ll provide details about the date, times, and locations of the discussion sessions.

We’re always looking for discussion leaders to help guide conversations. If you feel called to lead, contact Fr. Philip: [email protected]

This is a wonderful chance to grow in your faith, build community, and be inspired by the power of great Catholic literature!

Join us for this enriching experience—let’s grow together in faith and fellowship!

Retreats

At SSJ, our retreats meet parishioners wherever they are on their faith journey, offering multiple opportunities for spiritual growth throughout the year. Guided by experienced retreat leaders, each retreat explores different dimensions of Catholic spirituality through inspiring talks, the Sacraments, small group discussions, and personal reflection.

Held at renowned retreat centers, these retreats provide a peaceful change of pace and scenery, allowing participants to deepen their faith, connect with others, and find renewal in God’s presence. Whether seeking fellowship or quiet solitude, all are welcome to step away from the busyness of life and grow in their relationship with Christ.

Communitas Retreat

Encounter Christ. Belong Deeply. Build Beyond.

Join Saints Simon and Jude for a special parish retreat weekend, September 18–20, 2026, at the beautiful Mary & Joseph Retreat Center in Rancho Palos Verdes.

This weekend retreat is an invitation to step away from the busyness of everyday life and enter more deeply into prayer, friendship, and the life God is building among us. Rooted in the theme Communitas: Encounter Christ. Belong Deeply. Build Beyond., the retreat will help us reflect on what it means to be a people formed by Christ, strengthened in community, and sent forth to build something lasting for the Kingdom of God.

Whether you are looking for quiet time with the Lord, meaningful conversation, spiritual renewal, or a deeper sense of belonging in our parish family, this retreat is for you.

Retreat Leader

Our retreat will be led by Fr. Mike Walker, Pastor of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Fr. Mike is known for his engaging, accessible, and deeply faith-filled preaching, shaped by more than 25 years of priestly ministry.

Fr. Mike is also a seminary classmate and good friend of Fr. Reynold, which makes this retreat an especially meaningful opportunity for our Saints Simon & Jude parish community.
