Outreach & Service

At Saints Simon and Jude, we are deeply committed to the values of Outreach and Service. Inspired by Christ’s call to love and serve one another, we actively seek to make a difference in our parish, local community, and beyond. Whether through feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, or supporting those in need, we believe that service is a powerful expression of faith in action.

Mission Outreach

By participating in Mission Outreach, you share God’s love, bring hope to others, and deepen your own spiritual journey. Everyone at Saints Simon and Jude has the opportunity to live out our calling to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world! Every week during Advent and Lent we partner with a local charity to help support their mission.  We are grateful for the generous response from our parish community that helps thousands of people each year! Here is a list of some of the local charities we support:

Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter

A safe haven for homeless, run- away, abused and at-risk youth ages 11-17.

Mary’s Path

A short-term residential therapeutic program facility for pregnant and parenting youth ages 12-21 from the foster care system.

Save Our Youth (SOY)

Provides a safe and welcoming space for teens to find hope, nourish a sense of self and an ability to develop interests and skills to become productive members of society.

OC Children and Family Services

Dedicated to strengthening and stabilizing families to create an environment where children are free from abuse in permanent, nurturing homes.

Thomas House

Serves as a beacon of hope for unhoused and at-risk families with children by providing a safe, supportive environment while empowering them to become independent and self-sufficient.

Sea Cliff Assisted Living

A senior living community in Huntington Beach providing assisted living and memory care for a population with little discretionary resources and very limited family and friends.

Share Ourselves

Provides care and assistance to those in need including medical, dental, behavioral and social services as well as supplemental grocery bags for the working poor and ready-to-eat food bags, hygiene kits and clothing for the unhoused.

The Hunting Beach Navigation Center

Provides access to vital services including shelter, meals, showers, and other supportive services that help unhoused individuals on the path to housing security.

Mission Trips

We are excited to offer two incredible opportunities per year for individuals and families to serve on a Mission Trip abroad! Continuing our partnership with Praying Pelican Missions, these trips allow participants to engage in intergenerational, relational ministry, making a meaningful impact in communities abroad.

Who Can Participate?

Mission trips are intergenerational, meaning people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences serve side by side. We encourage families and individuals to be part of this life-changing experience as we build community and serve others in Christ’s name.

What Will We Be Doing?

We will engage in relational ministry, recognizing that relationships are at the heart of true conversion. To bring others closer to Christ, we must first be present, compassionate, and willing to serve. Our work will include:

Mercy Ministry – Visiting rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and prisons, distributing food to families in need.

Church & Prayer Ministry – Assisting with church services, prayer groups, and faith-sharing.

Children’s Ministry – Hosting Vacation Bible School (VBS), crafts, sports, games, and children’s liturgy

Work Projects – Cleaning, painting, construction, and repair projects to support the local community.

Where Will We Stay?

We will be hosted by a local partner church, with separate sleeping accommodations for men and women. Participants will stay in simple yet comfortable arrangements (bunk beds or air mattresses/sleeping bags). Our host church will provide:

  • Breakfast & dinner each day
  • Bathroom & shower facilities
  • Lunch during daily ministry activities

What Do You Need to Participate?

  • Availability for the full trip
  • A valid passport & travel insurance
  • Fingerprinting & background check (if 18+)
  • Notarized permission document (for minors traveling without a parent)

Quilt Guild

Stitching Together Faith, Fellowship, and Service

The Saints Simon and Jude Quilt Guild welcomes all who are interested in the art of quilt-making—whether you’re a seasoned quilter or picking up a needle for the first time! More than just a craft, quilting becomes a way to build community, foster friendships, and share warmth with those in need.

Our members work together to create and donate beautiful quilts that provide comfort to individuals and support other parish ministries through fundraising efforts. Every stitch is made with love, every quilt tells a story, and every gathering is an opportunity for fellowship and service in the name of Jesus.

Join us! We meet at the parish on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm. No prior quilting experience is needed—just a heart for creativity and service! For more details, check the parish bulletin.

Grief, Loss, and Healing Group

At Saints Simon and Jude, we understand that loss comes in many forms, whether through the passing of a loved one, divorce, relocation, the loss of a pet, job, or major life transition. Our Grief, Loss, and Healing Group provides a safe, compassionate, and confidential space where you can share your journey, find support, and begin the healing process.

Through the course of seven sessions, you will gain insight, coping strategies, and encouragement to help you embrace life once again. Lean into your faith and trust that healing is possible—you are not alone.  “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”—Psalm 34:18

Please reach out to the Parish Office to learn more and when the next session will be.
