Pastoral Message:

April 19, 2026

Dear SSJ Catholic Community,

Jesus asks a beautiful and simple question: “What are you discussing as you walk along?” Taking time to reflect on this question leads to some powerful thoughts.

First, what would happen if Jesus appeared to us as we were going about our daily lives? How would we react? What would we say? Would we question Him like the two disciples did in the Gospel, or would we be overwhelmed with excitement simply because He is standing beside us? When we receive great news, we often respond with joy—cheering, hugging those around us, tearing up, or even running around in disbelief. To have Jesus physically present with us would likely bring out all of those emotions and more. After all, this is Jesus—the One who died for us, saved us from our sins, and showed us how to live each and every day.

Second, what would we tell Jesus we were talking about? Would our conversation reflect the gifts God has given us and our desire to share them with others? Or would we be caught gossiping or speaking negatively about someone—something that goes against what God calls us to do? Would we be honest with Him, or would we feel embarrassed by our words? The phrase WWJD (“What Would Jesus Do?”) comes to mind. We know what Jesus would be discussing—how to share the Good News and bring others closer to God. Our conversations should strive to reflect that same purpose, rather than spreading negativity or disrespect.

We are reminded that God is always with us, no matter the time or place. As the prayer “Footprints” beautifully expresses: when we see two sets of footprints, He is walking beside us; when we see only one, it is because He is carrying us.

It is remarkable how one simple question from Jesus can lead us into such deep reflection. Let us continue to pray, grow in our faith, and be mindful of our words and actions, so that we are ready—at any moment—to walk with Him.

Sincerely,

Mr. Minter

Principal
