Pastoral Message – October 6, 2024
Right now it’s all about the Fall Festival here at Saints Simon & Jude. What does this mean? It means a lot of things: wild rides, a variety of great foods, fun games, enjoyable entertainment, an amazing talent show, and a raffle with a grand prize of $10,000. It seems that there’s something for everyone, so that all of us can get together and have a good time.
Of course, all of this involves a LOT of work. We are so thankful to all of the wonderful people who are working so hard to make this Festival a success. We like to talk about community, and with good reason. Our Festival shows the great value of community not only because so many people are getting together to have a good time, but also because so many people are working together to make it happen.
This reminds us of another important aspect of community. It’s not just having fun together and working together; it’s also praying together. We form a community because God is a Community (the Trinity), and we are made in God’s image and likeness. That’s why we have Mass in our church every day of the week, with multiple Masses on Saturday and Sunday: so we can worship God together. Praying together, especially at Mass, is the heart and soul of our community.
When the rides are gone and the booths have been taken down, let’s continue to live as a community: having fun together, working together, and most especially praying together.
Blessings,
Fr. Philip
