Volunteer Opportunities

Sonshine Summer 2018Are You Being Called to Serve Our Parish Youth?

We are always looking for adults who are passionate about their faith and willing to share their love of God and own faith journey with young children and teens.   No experience necessary!  We will give you the training and materials you will need.

Serving in Faith Formation (ages 3 to Grade 6)
If you have a heart to serve younger children consider volunteering as a catechist in our Faith Formation program.  Our program runs from October through May each year with classes meeting weekly.  You can participate with the Grade you like or Day that is convenient for you.

•    Early Childhood Ministry (ages 3-5)  -  Sundays from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
•    Grades 1 through 6  -  Sundays from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 OR Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Serving in Jr. High Ministry (Grades 7-8)
Would you like to accompany our Jr. High youth on their faith journey in those critical years before High School? Catechists pair up to facilitate small groups of 7th or 8th grade youth about 2 Wednesdays a month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Program runs from October to May.

Serving in Children’s Liturgy of the Word (Grades K-6)
CLOW is a worship experience for children to hear Scripture in words they understand.  After the opening prayer, children are lead to the Franciscan Rooms by a team of trained adults to hear the Word of God proclaimed and reflect upon its meaning in their lives, then rejoin their parents to continue the celebration of the liturgy.  CLOW takes place during the Sunday 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. masses.  Leaders/Readers are scheduled at the mass they usually attend about once a month and plan a Gospel reflection from resource materials provided.

Serving in First Communion/Reconciliation Preparation (Grades 2-6)
Adults provide instruction to small groups of children preparing for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation.  There are six sessions offered once a month from October through May.  You can help on Sunday afternoons or Tuesday evenings.  Also help is needed at the First Communion masses that take place after Easter.  Training is provided!

Serving in Teen Confirmation (Grades 9-12)
Are you excited about God and willing to work with Teens?  Sessions meet Sunday evenings twice a month from September to May.  Our biggest need is for people who can help welcome/check-in the teens, serve & clean up dinner and be present to support the teens and Peer Ministers as they learn, share, and build a faith community.

Additional requirements to serve in Youth Ministries
Our mission wouldn’t be fulfilled unless we took care to create a safe and welcoming environment for those young people involved in our programs.  This commitment means that all of our volunteers must receive proper awareness training and satisfy the requirements from the Diocese of Orange.

All Volunteers working with minors must:
•    Complete a Live Scan fingerprinting through a Diocese approved Certifix location
•    Complete online safe environment training course through CMG Connect.

Forms and instructions will be provided by the Faith Formation office
