SSJ Chess Champions

Congratulations to the following students who emerged victorious after the most recent SSJ Chess Tournament! For many, many years chess has been known as the “game of kings.” While these champions are no doubt playing for the pure enjoyment and competition, they are also simultaneously increasing their brain power! Many studies have shown that moving those knights and rooks around on the board can indeed raise a person’s IQ, as well as improve their level of creativity and memory. A chess match is like one big puzzle that needs solving, and solving on the fly, because the opponent is constantly changing the parameters of the game. The bottom line seems to be that chess improves both schoolwork and grades. Numerous studies have proven that kids obtain a higher reading level, math level, and a greater learning ability overall as a result of playing chess.
