Nicole Wills—Actions Speak Louder than Words

There is a sign that hangs on the walls of the SSJ School library that reads: No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. Third grader, Nicole Wills, aptly exemplified that quote when she decided to forgo birthday gifts for herself in order to give a precious gift to someone else. Here is Nicole’s story that she shared with us:

“When my birthday came along this year I didn’t know what I wanted at first. But then, a few weeks before my birthday I was at my friend’s house looking at some of her pictures. I found a picture of my friend with her soccer team and next to the picture was a paper that read “McKenna Claire Foundation.” After talking to my friend I learned that the picture was taken before her teammate McKenna passed away from pediatric brain cancer. From that moment I just knew that I somehow wanted to help McKenna’s family. So instead of gifts for my birthday party, I asked my family and friends to make a donation on behalf of McKenna. After my birthday party I was able to donate $386 to the McKenna Claire Foundation. It was my BEST birthday ever!”

The picture submitted by Nicole’s family shows her with Katie Price, another SSJ student who also donated to the foundation, and Kristine and Jordan Wetzel, McKenna’s mom and sister. Thank you, Nicole, for letting the light and love in your heart forever shine for someone else! You are an inspiration to all of us!
