We’re gearing up for a very exciting summer at SSJ! The registration deadline for summer classes has been extended, but books and materials need to be ordered. Please register as soon as possible. Classes this year will be combination classes for students entering grades 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8 in both mathematics and language arts. Registration confirmations will be sent home this week for students already registered.
We are also pleased to announce a new Summer Library Program at SSJ this year! This program will begin on June 19, and will run the same days as our summer school.
Each day from 9:15 – 10:00 a.m. teachers will lead a guided “read aloud” period for primary students in the library. They will be reading books and stories based on the theme for that week. The teachers will be with the students to assist them as they take Accelerated Reader quizzes and earn points toward their 2017-18 reading record.
From 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. teachers will lead activities (arts and crafts, writing, and research) based on the week’s theme. Students of all ages are invited to join in the fun.
From 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. there will be another “read aloud” period organized for students in grades 4-8. The literature chosen will also be based on the week’s theme. Students will then be encouraged to take Accelerated Reader quizzes and start earning points toward the 2017-18 school year. We are really excited about this year’s summer reading program and hope that every SSJ family will take part.
Summer Library Passes are still available in the business office or on the SSJ website. Library hours will remain 7:45 a.m. until noon for students wishing to only take a quiz or check out books. We’re looking forward to Sailing Into Summer by strengthening math and language arts skills with fun activities during our summer school classes and library program!
