Authors’ Day is Tuesday, January 26, and the students of SSJ will once again be privileged to have some terrific authors visit our campus this month to share their wonderful talents with all of us!
Mister Lemur, aka Jen Hartvickson, is the Stanford educated author of Mister Lemur’s Train of Thought. He is also the winner of the 2011 Gold Medal for Children’s Poetry in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, and he will be sharing his story with the TYKE through fifth grade students. Mister Lemur’s Train of Thought will transport the reader’s imagination to wondrous places. The stories are funny, colorful, and rich in both vocabulary and educational content (i.e. science, geography and conceptual humor). Recognizing the power of music to engage young readers, he turned his writing into catchy songs that “hook” youngsters and show how writing is a Launchpad for other creative arts. We invite you to climb aboard for 66 lyrical adventures and see why Mister Lemur stories are moving kids forward and taking parents back!
Elana K. Arnold will be speaking to the sixth through eighth grade students. She is the author of four books for teens, and her story for middle grades, “The Question of Miracles”, debuted in 2015. She also has a new middle-grade novel “Far from Fair” due out this March. Her most recent novels have earned starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist and Publishers Weekly. She is a Huntington Beach resident who loves meeting and working with young writers. Elana says, “My job when working with emerging writers is to give them tools so they can better mine their stories. Just as important, I encourage them to trust their instincts and enjoy the process.”
Order forms for selected books will be sent home with your students. Please note that purchased books will be signed by the authors!
