Stewardship Board

Vision of Stewardship:

As baptized Catholics, Stewardship is not an option; rather it is an integral part of our faith. In the waters of baptism there comes a call – the call to discipleship. In choosing to respond, we embrace a life of following Christ. In that life, all that we have is a gift from our God – our lives, our faith, the earth we live on, the air we breathe and water we drink, the time we have for living, the talent bestowed on us and the treasure we gather. Stewardship calls us to a way of life based on the acknowledgement of and gratitude for these gifts.

“There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the same Lord, there are different works but the same God who accomplishes all of them in everyone.”(1 Cor 12: 4-5)

We do not own all that we have been given; rather God blesses us abundantly that we might care for and multiply our blessings, adding to them and returning them as building blocks to the Reign of God. How do we grow these gifts? We grow them by giving them away like the loaves and the fishes. In the sharing comes the growth. Sharing is something we do when we respond to the call of discipleship: the conscious, free sharing of our gifts based on love, gratitude and justice.

Stewardship, then, is all-embracing, a holistic response to the call of our baptism. It becomes the model for how we live our lives, raise our families, share our faith, serve others and share our material and financial resources. When we practice Stewardship in our individual lives, we are creating the Reign of God in our community and in our world. In the Bishop’s Pastoral Letter titled Stewardship: A Disciples Response, A Christian Steward is defined as follows:

“One who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes them and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others and returns them with increase to the Lord.”

Goal of Stewardship Board:

Create an environment in which the community is able to deepen their personal relationship with God and to understand Stewardship as a core parish value through the insight that everything is God’s gift.
