Baptism, Eucharist and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the sacraments of Christian Initiation.  The Sacrament of Confirmation is offered to teenagers once they begin high school.  Confirmation for Adults, a separate program, is offered to adults once each year. 

Confirmation of High School Age Persons:

This is a two-year preparation program which culminates in the celebration of the sacrament during the Easter season of the second year.  The person preparing for Confirmation must be at least entering the 9th grade and enrolled in a program of Religious Education either in a Catholic high school or in the parish program of High School Faith Sharing.

During the preparation time the young person participates in days of reflection, an overnight retreat, service projects and liturgical experiences.  Some of these experiences are designed for the young person and his/her sponsor and some are designed for the young person and his/her parents.  Students are invited to participate in the social events sponsored by the Youth Ministry.

Each candidate for Confirmation is expected to select one of the saints of the church to study during the preparation time.  The student writes a report on the saint and this is the name presented to the bishop as the Confirmation name.

Adult Confirmation:

 Preparation for Adult Confirmation takes place during the Lenten and Easter seasons each year.  This program is designed for

• those who have been baptized as Catholics and have received the Eucharist;
• those who have been baptized as Catholics and have not received the Eucharist;
• those who have been baptized and catechized in another Christian tradition;
• those who desire an update on Catholic doctrine;
• those who would like more information about the Catholic faith because they are married to a Catholic.

 There are twelve sessions which take place on a Sunday morning.  In the diocese of Orange Confirmation for adults usually takes place on Pentecost Sunday.
