During his homily, Fr. Michael refers to the three “D's” and the reading below from Isaih:
Prepare the way of the Lord!
Make straight in the wasteland
a highway for our God!
Every valley shall be filled in,
Every mountain and hill shall be made low;
The rugged land shall be made a plain,
the rough country, a broad valley.
Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed…
Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
In making straight in the wasteland, a highway for our God, we are called to fill in the valleys and wastelands we have created. That call, is to begin now, in this season of Advent. Pick up a shovel, and from that enormous mountain of self-centeredness, self-indulgence and selfishness, begin by filling in the valleys and wastelands of your dissatisfactions, distractions, and disengagements. Then, the glory of the Lord shall be revealed!

Gospel Reflection Questions
For Adults:
- When I look deeply at my life, what can I honestly say is binding me? What stone has entombed me? What can Jesus free me from? Fear? Gluttony? Lust? Anger? Pride? Deceit? Envy? Greed?
For Children:
- In the Gospel story, Jesus showed his friends, Martha, Mary and Lazarus that he is always present even when it seems impossible to find happiness. What prayer will I say to remind myself that Jesus is a friend who is always with me to keep me strong and loving? How will I respond to my friends when they are sad? How will I respond to my friends when they are happy?

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
Sunday, April 3, 2011
1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a • Ephesians 5:8-14 • John 9:1-41
Gospel Reflection Questions
- For Adults:
After Jesus cured him, the man who was born blind was able to see clearly. The religious leaders who had their sight could not see the truth. Where in my life am I blinded from the truth? Do I see the truth that God is love and I am loveable, or am I blinded from that truth? - For Children:
Jesus met a blind man who wanted to see. He healed him and gave him his sight. Then the man could see with his eyes and he could see with his heart that God made him to share his faith with others. What gifts has God given me to share with the world?

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
Sunday, March 27, 2011
Exodus 17:3-7 • Romans 5:1-2, 5-8 • John 4:5-42
Gospel Reflection Questions
- For Adults: What are we truly thirsting for? Are we searching for the truth, or just more of the same old lies? More illusions? In today’s gospel, Jesus shows a woman who is caught in the desert and dryness of self-deception where to find living water. What self-deception do we need to shed in order to find the life-giving waters of Jesus?
- For Children: In today’s Gospel, Jesus meets a woman at a well. Jesus did not judge her even though he knew she had sinned. She has water from the well, but she wants more than water. She wants the unconditional love that Jesus showed her. What are three ways that I will be like Jesus and give God’s love to others without judging them?
