Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation constitute the Sacraments of Christian Initiation. The Sacrament of Confirmation seals the Baptismal promise parents made on their child’s behalf of initiation into the Catholic Church. The High School preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation fulfills all diocesan requirements mandated by the Bishop of Orange. Every effort is taken to provide relational experiences for teen’s to apply the sacramental life of the Church to their own lives. Importance is given to renew communities through faith, strengthen family relationships, and prepare youth to be engaged Disciples of Christ.
Registration Process
- Registration packets will be mailed to all families who completed the first year of Confirmation preparation.
- Registration packets will be mailed out to all families who currently have children or youth enrolled faith formation and SSJ School families.
- If the above does not apply to your family and are new to the parish or have been away for a year, registration packets will be mailed upon request starting Mid May. Call the Catechetical Center at 714.963.0014 for more information.
- Copies of registration forms will not be accepted. Registration packets are tailored to each family..
Preparation Overview
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation takes place over a two year period. Preparation begins for youth that entering the ninth grade of high school. Youth and parent(s) or guardian are expected to fully participate in the events sponsored by the parish and attend Mass regularly.
In receiving the Eucharist, we are strengthened to be Christ’s presence to others. As Catholics, the core of our faith experience and belief is gathering for Holy Mass and celebrating Eucharist. At Mass we gather (MT 18:20), participate in the Liturgy of the Word participate in the Liturgy of the Eucharist (MT 26:26-29), and are sent forth to love and serve the world (MT 22:37-39).
Year 1 Preparation Overview
The candidate’s preparation includes the following requirements for the start of their two year journey.
- Participate in the Rite of Entrance.
- Attend Year 1 Retreat.
- Choose a saint’s name and write a report on him or her.
- Select a sponsor.
- Attend Parish Advent and Lent Youth Penance Services.
- Participate in a service project.
- Attend and participate in on-going faith formation (Faith Sharing).
- Regular attendance at Sunday Mass.
Year 2 Preparation Overview
The candidate is required to complete the first year of preparation and re-register for the second year of preparation. Candidates participation for Year 2 will include the following requirements:
- Participate in the Rite of Support.
- Attend Parish Advent and Lent Youth Penance Services.
- Participate in a service project.
- Write a letter to the Bishop towards the end of the preparation.
- Attend Year 2 Retreat: an overnight parish sponsored Confirmation retreat, for a period of seclusion, which is lead in a spirit of Catholic formation, spirituality and prayer.
- Attend and participate in on-going faith formation (Faith Sharing).
- Regular attendance at Sunday Mass
